The Slumlove Blog
September 26 marked our one year anniversary!
And what a crazy year it's been.
Slumlove was born out of a desire to see my friends in Kenya be able to provide for themselves and their families. It was created to help make a difference in a slum in Kenya. It was created so that you (yes, YOU), could be a part of changing people's lives.
Reflecting back on this year, I couldn't be more grateful. Through your purchases, Clare (our sweater-maker) was able to open her own knitting shop. She is making school uniforms for children all over Kenya and can now provide a better life for her 5 year old daughter. Through your purchases, we've been able to donate over $1,500 to education in the slum, giving students who may have never had the chance to go to high school, an opportunity to have a future.
And you better believe we aren't done yet.
Now, officially in our second year, we are continuing to push forward. We've introduced two new products this Fall, with more on the way later this month! We want to give you more ways to be a part of changing people's lives. We want to inspire you to chase your dreams, live your life to the fullest, and help make the world a better place.
All this to say, THANK YOU. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support of Slumlove means the world to me.
I hope you'll stick around as we continue this thing. I know there's still more to be done in Kibera. There's more mothers & fathers who need jobs, and more children who need an education. Let's make this next year even better than the first.

We love getting celebrate life with our dear friends in ATX.
The summer of 2012, when Slumlove was just a thought lingering in the back of my mind, I had the pleasure of visiting the palace of Versailles in France. No other place I've visited has made as much of an impression on me as Versailles. I was in awe of everything, from the ornateness of the palace itself, to the tragic lives of those who lived in it. After visiting Versailles, I immediately purchased a biography of Marie Antoinette - eager to learn as much as I could about this incredible place (I may or may not still be working on that book).
In honor of our giveaway with Fat Tire Bike Tours, I thought it would be quite fitting to resurface some photos from my trip.
We are pumped to be giving away a Slumlove sweater & VIP tour of Versailles to one lucky winner this week! For more information on the contest, click here.
We're teaming up this week with Fat Tire Bike Tours to giveaway a free bike tour of the Versailles Palace in France! We've been working hard dreaming, designing & creating new products for Slumlove. This past year, we received an overwhelming number of requests to start making cardigans, and we heard you loud & clear! Starting September 17, Slumlove Sweater Co. will begin selling men's & women's cardigans, available in red & black.
In addition to cardigans, Slumlove will also be introducing a new style of men's sweater - The Striped Crew!

And as always, we will still have our classic men's & women's sweaters available in a variety of colors! All of our products are made with love in Nairobi, Kenya and 25% of every purchase goes to providing scholarships for children living in one of the world's largest slums. Our collection was created to keep you stylish while giving you the opportunity to make a difference in the world.
